Detroit, Michigan has been one of the founding cities for the EDM culture since the mid-1980s. But with this summer fast approaching concert-goers are finding more and more opportunities to attend shows. With acts like Skrillex, Zomboy, Phish, who can’t be excited for summer shows in the D?  I asked three local Michiganders what they thought were the “Must See Shows of Summer 2014” and here’s what they had to say:

Q: “What five shows are you most excited for this upcoming summer?”

I’m most excited for Addicted to Bass the most because Doctor P, Vaski, and NiT GriT will all be there. Other shows that I’m most excited for are Terravita; and Skrillex is a big one too. Oh, and how could I forget Zomboy and Cookie Monsta? Needless to say I’m pretty excited. I think the last show I’m really excited for is Kill the Zo at Elektricity!

Well, for shows next month I’m trying to go to Skrillex but it’s so expensive. I’m so excited for Minnesota at Elektricity though, that’s gunna be a killer show! Sub focus is gunna be pretty rad also, and I’ll for sure have to hit up Lindsey Stirling.
Uhhh, well I might not be here all summer but I’m definitely pumped to see Minnesota/ Koan sound. An of course I’m gunna go to Zomboy and Skrillex’s show when they’re in town. But I think the last show I’m most excited for is gunna be all of Electric Forest.

So, what are the best 5 shows to catch this summer in Michigan?

1:  Skrillex (Wsg, Dillion Francis, What So Not, Milo & Otis)

Skrillex and guests take the stage this summer at the Detroit Masonic Temple on May 28th. This is only one of Skrillex’s stops on his Mothership tour across North America. What makes this show a must-see event is because if any of you attended his 2012-2013 New Years Eve “The Bang” concert with Boys Noize and Flosstradamus, you know that he will not only provide a killer set but also an atmosphere of pure bass.

2: Kill the Zo (Kill the Noise & Matt Zo)

Kill the Noise and Matt Zo will be honoring the people of Detroit with their bass on May 16th at Elektricity Nightclub. If you love heavy bass with smooth electronic jams, then this is the show for you. With Kill the Noise bringing his signature bass, like in his album of “Black Magic”, and Matt Zo’s bringing his well-known house style makes this show perfect for everyone. So even if you love to get down to some dirty dub or vibe out with some electrifying house this show will meet your every need.

3: Phish

I know all of us are anxious for Phish’s Summer 2014 tour, but Phish will make one of his stops at the DTE Energy Music Theatre on July 16th.  Since Phish’s last performance in Detroit in 2012, they have played shows all around the US, ranging from Madison Square Garden to Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Phish is known for being an iconic jam band since their reunion in 2009. If you love jams that will not only make you feel every melody, but also elevate your spirit, then this is the show you need to be at.

4: Zomboy (Wsg Cookie Monsta, and Brillz)

“Twonk Team” creator Brillz and cornerstone DJ Cookie Monsta will be special guests with Zomboy on his Outbreak tour, but they will be at the Royal Oak Music Theatre on June 21st. This show will not only have heavy influence of US born genre “trap” but also incorporate some of the dirtiest dubstep beats that Detroit has ever seen.  With Zomboy’s “The Dead Symphonic EP” coming out in 2012, this heavy bass infused dubstep will make every attendee at this show galvanize with love and bass.

5: Terravita

This will be Terravita’s first time coming to Detroit with his new LP being released this year, “Rituals.” Terravita will be at The Works in Downtown Detroit on June 14th.  Terravita released his new “Rituals LP” on April 1st of this year, with tracks like “Check this Out” & “King of the Jungle” it makes this album a cluster of heavy bass. Being apart of Firepower Records, Terravita can be compared to have a similar bass style as Datsik and Getter.Incorporating his own unique style of lyrics and beat, he has become a power player among the Firepower Records label artists. Terravita is a must see, if you call yourself a true member of the Detroit Rave Scene then this the show to be at!
