Top 5 Shows to See in May in Colorado
The month of May is jammed pack with shows featuring some of the biggest names in EDM. With Summer just around the corner and Red Rocks season coming into full swing, we picked the 5 shows that you absolutely must see this month! Which ones are you looking forward to most?
5. Global Dub Festival- Red Rocks Amphitheatre- May 16th
Since playing Global Dance Festival 2012 and opening for Savoy in September of the same year, Krewella has not played a set at Red Rocks. On May 17th, the trio will make their highly anticipated return to both the rocks, and to Colorado. The last time they were here, they teamed up with Zeds Dead to deliver an unforgettable sold out night at the 1st Bank center. With support from dubstep legends Datsik and Crizzly, it’s safe to say their first headlining performance at Red Rocks will be another one to remember.
4. Cashmere Cat & XXYYXX- The Gothic Theatre- May 25th
Cashmere Cat has been producing his unique brand of hip-hop-jersey-club-trap influenced dance music for almost three years now, but this year is shaping up to be his biggest yet. With the rise of melodic trap music led by the likes of Australian producers Flume, Wave Racer, Mr. Carmack and the like, it’s no surprise that Cashmere has exploded onto the mainstream music scene. This year alone he has dropped an EP of his own, Wedding Bells, on top of producing a huge collaboration for Ludacris and Wiz, “Party Girls.” It’s clear this is only the beginning for the young Norwegian producer, and this could be one of your last chances to see him in such an intimate venue as Denver’s Gothic Theatre.
3. Kill the Zo- Beta Nightclub- May 29th
If you haven’t heard of this collaboration yet, you’re probably not alone. The unlikely duo has been keeping the public in the dark about the project. Their website, killthezo.com includes nothing more than links to purchase tickets to each of their 11 confirmed dates… and some neat, ominous, artwork of course. The only source of information available is through an exclusive interview with UKF. In the interview, the two confirmed very little other than the following: they are making tracks together, they will likely play b2b in some way, and this is NOT a one-time thing. “I consider this a project. It’s not just a tour, it’s a project; making music and being friends. This has a life of its own!” –Kill the Noise. The tour kicks off May 8th, hitting some of the biggest dance music cities in the country. Don’t miss their Denver debut @ Beta on the 29th!
2. Gramatik- Red Rocks Amphitheatre- May 17th
It’s no secret that Gramatik loves Colorado. He frequently debuts new music and production at Colorado shows, and strives to make them special occasions. In November 2012, he took a set break during his Fillmore show in Denver to celebrate the passage of Amendment 64. Most recently, he and GRiZ played an extended Halloween night GRiZmatik set to a sold out 1st Bank Center Crowd, dropping loads of unreleased tunes from The Age of Reason, which was released in January. This will be his first headlining set at Red Rocks, after previously opening for Pretty Lights several times, as well as rocking the sunset slot at Global Dance Festival 2013. With Raw Russ on guitar, and funk legends Lettuce along for the ride, this one is sure to get funky!
1. Bassnectar- Red Rocks- May 30-31st
The most anticipated event of the month is without a doubt Bassnectar’s return to Red Rocks. After a super successful New Year’s run which included two nights of Basslights, Decadence, and a sold out New Year’s Eve performance in Nashville, Bassnectar announced he would be going off the radar. He has played just one show this year, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been working. His time off of touring was spent collaborating with 50 different artists, and creating what will become his 10th studio album. Before it drops, however, Colorado will get a sneak peek. The 4-night run includes two sold out nights at Aspen’s intimate Belly Up, followed by two sold out nights at Red Rocks. As if the anticipation wasn’t enough, on April 2nd, the man himself posted a screenshot of 26 brand new song titles to his Facebook. Each of the four shows will be entirely unique experiences, featuring brand new original material. Catch whatever night(s) you can; this is not an event to miss!
