Hang Out Festival Day 1 Highlights
Hang Out Music Festival kicked off with an incredible first day. The sold-out festival boasted one of the best lineups of the summer, so it was no surprise the inaugural day was nothing short of spectacular. Here were the top 6 performance highlights:
1.) Childish Gambino
Childish Gambino’s EXPLOSIVE performance. hands down had the best stage presence of all of the performers on the Friday lineup. Throughout his entire set he was jumping around, dancing, and interacting with the crowd. However, the highlight of the night was when Gambino free-styled a rapped about Gulf Shores and Hang Out Festival, with the whole crowd cheering him on.
2.) The Black Keys
The Black Keys’ set, which was one of only TWO dates in the US during 2014. The crowd was packed for over 400 yards down the beach. The group started a bit late, but made up for it by rocking out and opening with their classics “Howlin’ For You” and “Next Girl.” However, the highlight of their performance was the first time they ever played their track “Gotta Get Away” which got the crowd to let loose and dance. They followed their new track with the beloved “Tighten Up” which got everyone singing along.
3.) Wiz Khalifa
Wiz Khalifa threw a rowdy party at the Chevrolet stage. The rapper was introduced by his beautiful wife Amber Rose, and kicked off his performance with an expression of his love for marijuana. On stage the rapper encouraged fans to “light it up if you’ve got it” while spitting out lyrics to all of his hits including “Roll Up” and “Young, Wild, n Free” and all while bouncing giant inflatable alligators amongst the crowd.
4.) The Queens of the Stone Age
The Queens of the Stone Age took us straight back to the era of rock n’ roll with their head bangin’ set. The entire band jammed throughout, promoting good vibes by calling out a guy in the audience that violently pushed a girl face first into the stand. The band even got the entire crowd chanting “ass hole” as the man was arrested escorted out by police.
STS9 tore up the Boom Boom tent with their funky sound and mesmerizing light show. The crowd was one of the best at the festival, with good vibes all around. Their new bassist, Alana Rocklin, didn’t miss a beat and jammed right along with the band’s original members like she had been playing with them from the start.
RAC started the day rocking out in the Boom Boom tent. The group played their stellar remixes of the biggest hit songs including Lana del Rey’s “Blue Jeans.” The group’s stage presence was spot on, engaging in a way that made every member of the audience feel like they were being sang to directly. The light fun mood was the perfect start to The Hang Out Festival.
